The Suspects
The Suspects
were a late 70’s band based in
Davis, California featuring Kendra Smith, Steve Wynn, Russ Tolman, Gavin Blair and Steve Suchil. They released one single in 1979, “Talking Loud” b/w “It’s Up to You.” The band was short-lived but Kendra’a involvement in music continued as she moved on to Los Angeles with bandmate Steve Wynn to form The Dream Syndicate. Her next lucrative pairing was with David Roback in creating the bands Rainy Day in 1984 and, later, Opal. After Opal’s demise in 1989 Kendra remained active as a solo musician until the mid-90s.
For your digital listening enjoyment I offer you the “Talking Loud” ep and a live recording of a German cover version of Velvet Underground and Nico’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties.”

Thanks! I’ve been trying to track down more Kendra Smith related projects and this is one I did not know about. I think her 5 Ways of Disappearing CD is one of the most underrated releases of the mid 90’s…

Thanks so much for sharing this, I figured I was NEVER going to hear it. Any idea what Kendra might be up to nowadays, she’s been very quiet since that 4AD album…? x
