Hearless Martin - Tonigh cover

Dusted off another jem for ya’ll this week. Click below for a digitized version of the Heartless Martin Tonigh cassette recorded in Summer 1993 to become the seventh release on Donna Dresch’s Chainsaw Records label. The one-off collaboration featured Corin Tucker of Heavens to Betsy/Sleater-Kinney fame together with Becca Albee from Excuse 17.
This EP is a definite stunner with heart breaking simple songs and lyrics highlighting Corin’s voice as it cuts through the lo-fi recording and lands square in the middle of your chest.  “Heartless Martin, ready for take off!”
tracklisting:
1. you can’t break a broken heart
2. the times (kerry)
3. 20/20 vision
4. johnny
5. movie theme song
noise noise noise

Oh my word, I’ve been listening to the most awful sounding mp3s of these songs for years. Thank you so much for posting this! Amazing to hear it so clearly.

Thanks all for your comments. I’m so glad to be able to share this bit of beauty. I got the cassette mailorder from K Records or KRS back in the day. I’d love to get my hands on the rest of the early Chainsaw Records catalog, CHSW 1-4…

Hmm… I had a strange feeling about that name and checked it and , indeed, the name of the ep is, in fact, “Tonight” — the last t is just not visible…

hey Dougal - I wonder where you found this information? I have the cassette right here and it clearly states on the front and on the spine that the name is “Tonigh”… very curious!

This is basically amazing. Awesome awesome awesome. I love how clear the vocal mix is- assuming the rest of 1000 Years doesn’t bury the vocals like Doubt, what a wonderful way to show how much has changed after 17 years.
