Although the title above proclaims this to be a “women in punk” blog, I’m not adverse to stretching the limits now and again - enough so at least to introduce an excellent project focusing on women in hip-hop. Anattitude is a Belgian magazine and website started by German artist Jeanette Petri, a.k.a. Jee Nice, which aims to present “strong independent women from around the hip-hop world with a special focus on a variety of gender styles.”
There is a definite European lean to the content and a keen eye for clean aesthetics that I especially appreciate. The third issue is out now and available in some select stores or through their website.
The website also feature photographs, videos, a blog and other informative b*girl bits. Much like my own women in punk web archive, Jeanette has set out to present an online women in hip-hop timeline and discography as well as highlighting forgotten female talent of the genre. Check it out, yo!
p.s. Simon who wrote me last week about Meltdown, please re-send the message, it got lost!
