Today I give you a little lesbianic wink and wiggle - a song from a short-lived band called This Beat is Lezbotronik, recorded in Brighton in September 2002 by bandmates Verity Susman and Lauren Roe. The name of the song is also “This Beat is Lezbotronik” and it was released to the public on a limited edition white 10″ compilation called Viva la Diva put out by IRRK Records.
This song is a remanent of a time not too long ago when homo punks in London and neighboring cities joined forces to create a small but dedicated scene of parties, records and good times. I had nothing whatsoever to do with the scene and caught wind of it only in retrospect. Six years later, much has changed - Electrelane broke up, Homocrime and Dyke Bar are no more and even Nag Nag Nag has shut it’s doors for good. Most of the kids have also moved on, bought flats, gotten married, changed cities and are now creating noise in other ways. But now through the magic of digital media, this beat lives on. Many thanks to Verity and Lauren for allowing me to post this track.
